San Mig Light - Later? Waiter?

Noong napanood ko tong commercial na to. I can say it's good. The theme is appropriate and both personalities are seducing. Just right for the commercial of a beer. Maganda rin yung one word exchange conversation. Very unique and classy.

Ilang beses ko ng napanood tong commercial na to and I did not find any flaw with the commercial. Napansin ko na lang na mayroon pa lang punchline o hidden joke sa commercial nung lumabasas yung second version ng commercial na to na parang may subtitle na or explaining what's happening with the commercial. I just couldn't find that version here online. Sana lang napanood nyo un para we are on the same page.

So sa last part nung commercial kasi, they have this conversation: "Call you? Your call. Tomorrow? Later." The conversation is very clear, pronunciation is right. et.al. Really no problem to be sought. Kaso bigla na lang after that conversation lumabas ang isang lalaking mukang bouncer na may dalang bucket of beer. Then the guy said "Yes maam?"

So 1st version. As a watcher, nothing is wrong. Pero nung kinommercial na yung 2nd version, inexplain dun na akala nung bouncer ay tinatawag sya ni Sam Pinto na "waiter" and hindi "later." Namisheard nung bouncer/waiter yung "later" ni Sam as waiter.

So what's my point. It's a punchline or it's a joke, kaso hindi agad napadala yung message sa mga watchers na joke pala yun. So what they do is to make the 2nd version para malaman ng watchers na it is a puchline. Waiter and later sound alike talaga, but with the flow of conversation among the two personalities, ALAM KO NA LATER ANG SINABI NI SAM AT HINDI WAITER.

The point is they did not deliver the punchline correctly to the watchers. So they need to make that 2nd version pa just to explain everything right - WHICH IS ANOTHER COST for the company. And companies aim to reduce their costs in any means but with their commercial, naging mas costly pa. I don't know if it is their mistake not to deliver it to the watchers or strategy yun para gumawa ulit ng 2nd version na may subtitle or caption or explanation. What I know is costly yun for the company.

Sana if they really want to push that joke, they should have tried to make the bouncer-like guy to wear a stereotypical waiter look di ba. A man wearing a white long sleeve with black bow tie. Just for the sake of the commercial and proper delivery of the joke. Na kapag sinabi na ni Sam yung "later" tapos biglang may lumabas na guy wearing the stereotypical suit of a waiter, baka nakuha pa ng mas maraming tao yung joke. But of course ganun talaga sa isang bar, mostly ang waiter ay bouncer-looking na din.

Bottom line. They did not deliver their punchline effectively to all watchers. Maybe some people noticed the joke dun pa lang sa 1st version but promotion should create an advertisement that will be recognized easily by all consumers and hindi iilan lang. The 2nd version is another cost for the promotion and it is an expense. Mababawasan natin sana yung expense kung sa 1st version ay itinama na at maiintindihan hindi lang ng kaunting tao kundi lahat ng tao. lalo na ang target market nila.
